THE WALL

Life was tough behind the wall, there was not much food no music and no TV so we had to make our own fun. So i decided to  investigate an old derelict building that was supposed to be haunted.

I entered using a back door as i didn't want to get caught and when i got in it was very dark and damp. I  went up to the first floor to see what the bedrooms were like but as i went up a stair gave way under my foot an broke my leg, and it was stuck.How was i gonna get out of here? After a while i started to hear what sounded like moaning noises and a light started to flash dimly which was weird as there was no electricity, At that point i pulled my leg out of the stair as hard as i could and hopped as fast as i could out of the old house, i managed to hobble home where told my parents that i had fallen as i would had been in deep trouble if they knew what i been up to. I still believe that old house is haunted even though i have never been back. I still see the light flashing but now the wall has been taken down i can get away from that horrible place.

2.1 Outline own options for developing skills and enquiring knowledge towards achieving a career arms

I have chosen to look at music production and music magazines as possible places of employment for myself in the future. To further my knowledge in music production I will be attending Leeds College of Music where I will be studying a Level 3 Diploma in Music Technology.

It may be a good idea to investigate becoming a runner (tea boy) or a volunteer for major record labels or radio stations as this shows a willingness to work which is desirable in a potential employee. Magazines such as Rock Sound and Kerrang have been known to offer apprenticeships which could be an excellent chance to gain experience.

2.2 Identify actions to take in order to achieve goals

I have looked into different ways in which I could take action I have listed some potential ones below:

• create, target and distribute CV
• attend a college course
• look for apprenticeships
• apply for interviews
• research (youtube, wiki, band web pages)
• word of mouth
• look at advertisement e.g. newspapers

3.1 Identify elements of a CV portfolio used for career development

The most relevant areas of a CV include areas that identify strength, experience and qualifications as these allow your possible employer to gain a understanding of what you already know, how well you know it and how best to further develop your skills. These areas may show how well you work (alone or with a team) and if you are a possible leader or what role you could possibly play in a team.

3.2 Outline ways a CV portfolio can be used

Your CV is one of the most flexible and convenient ways to make an application. It can be used to share information about yourself. It is important that the CV is eye catching in order to make a good first impression (pay close attention to your spelling and grammar). 

You also need to make sure that when making a CV for a job you make your CV relevant to that particular job, you can also use your CV to list key skills that are relevant to that job it is also a good idea to write a small biog with personal information such as interests and hobbies. 

Make sure your CV is available online and in paper form. It may also be worth including a covering letter. It is important to proof read your CV before sending it. Include examples of your work with the CV such as images or if done online, videos can be used. Also make sure that an online version of your CV is available permanently so that you can send this to a possible employer at a moments notice. 

The most important thing with a CV is to make sure they are constantly updated even if you are in employment . There isn't any need to jazz up your CV with colour, It is better to be formal with basic black and white throughout however using a dash of colour, bold text or a different font size on the headings may help to differentiate different sectors of the CV.

Don't use very long paragraphs, make it short and sweet. Setting your list of achievements in reverse chronological order can make it easier for your possible employer to understand all your qualifications.

1.2 Different job roles and qualifications needed

Music producer - music producers do not require any official qualifications in order to be employed however the skills that are taught on music courses could be considered vital skills, most music collages include some kind of music production course.

Music journalist - it is suggested that music journalists don't have to major in music but would need a journalism qualification. A 4 year course in communication or journalism is preferred by most companies, it is also recommended that you have a basic understanding of computer literacy and a basic understanding of different recording softwares for recording interviews on.

1.1 Key sources of information




Wiki (unreliable) - wikipedia is a unreliable yet at times effective way to research, the reason this is because it can be edited by anyone meaning someone could upload false information on the site however it can be an effective means of sharing information of the original author.

Artist websites - i looked at deadmau5 official website which shows all the company's that he has worked with it also includes a time line of his greatest achievements including album releases this shows how many different avenues are available to musicians/producers giving lots of different links to possible sources of information.



Label contact details - i looked at Sony records and found the website holds lots of relevant information such as their most successful artists and a link on how to begin searching for a job in the music sector though Sony themselves this could be a key source of information if you were looking for a carer in the record industry.









Autobiography - this is a book written by someone about there own life, when this is a musician it normally contains how they became a musician and the training they received it will also contain all the pitfalls and mistakes to avoid and where to get some of the best information and how best to approach your carer.






School/collage/university - i looked at Leeds collage of music they offer a range of  courses in various parts of the music sector with a short yet informative description of the course including fee, tutor and time length of the courses available they are also full of other students of all ages that have lots of reinvent information to share.








Band colleagues - band members are great sources of information as each band member has experience in different things shearing this information benefits both of you.












On line - this is where most information will come from using many websites such as youtube, face book, artist websites, etc. nearly all information can be found or shared about most artist and different types of training in the world.









Private tuition - i looked at private tutors in Leeds and found the page bellow which offers many different types of guitar lessons and information on why tuition is a good road to go down 1 to 1 tuition is still regarded as the best possible form of education available.
